A defibrillator, available for use by the community, has been installed at the club.

If a defibrillator is applied to a cardiac arrest victim within 3-5 minutes, their chances of survival increase from 6 percent to 75 percent.

This summer, as the scorer of an east London club was closing down his scorebox, he began to feel unwell. Soon he had slipped in cardiac arrest and lost consciousness. Like us, the club had recently acquired a defibrillator and the quick actions of a club member in rigging the machine up undoubtedly saved the scorer's life.

We are grateful to the Club Cricket Charity and the Community Heartbeat Trust for their help in supplying us with the defibrillator and, while we hope that we never need it, are proud to provide the facility for the community.

Our machine is fixed to the pavilion wall, just outside the scorebox. It is available to members of the public, in addition to sports association members. The code to the defibrillator cabinet is held behind the bar and has been distributed to sports association clubs.

Members of the public can access the cabinet by dialling 999. The operator will give instructions on how to access the cabinet and apply the defibrillator the patient.

If you are interested in learning how to use the defibrillator, there are a lot of helpful videos online. Click here for an example.

The club intends to hold training sessions for members at the start of next season. Watch this space.
