Match report by George Liveing

The sun was shining and the setting at Radlett was brilliant as usual - Radlett won the toss and decided to bat.

DJ continued his great start to the season with a wicket in the first over of the game, shortly followed by a snick behind caught by Meags, to dismiss both openers - Moffat & T Malde.

OJ from the other end bowled tight lines as both bowlers found great rhythm making it hard for the Radlett batsmen to score.

Ellis replaced DJ and picked up 2 wickets - His first an absolute boomerang which took off stump out the ground as Rose left the ball and N Malde - caught behind.

Gaz picked up Armitage from the other end as he bowled tight areas throughout his spell.

A good partnership between Patel & Singh took them towards the 200 mark with wickets at the end from Hobbers, OJ and Liveing - Radlett finishing on 217/9.

NCC needed 218 to win the game which we’d have taken at the start of the day.

To say that it didn’t quite go to plan at the start was a bit of an understatement - Some very tight bowling from the openers Carpenter (1-15) & Rose (3-21) ripped though our top order as Randall, Liveing, Jules and Batsey were all out with only 35 runs on the board off 14 overs.

With a rebuild needed Hobbers joined Gaz at the crease and they got us back in the game with a 95 run partnership rotating the strike well and picking up boundaries. Hobbers was bowled by a quicker ball from Singh for 41, leaving us on 130/5 off 37.

Gaz continued to lead the charge with shots to all parts of the ground and was helped by Meags who cleared his front leg to keep up with the rate and support Gaz.

Into the last over and we needed 14 to win - some smart bowling from Thapar made it difficult to find the rope and we finished 6 runs short.

Gaz finished up on 106* with 13 boundaries - With a bit more support from the top order he should’ve been on the winning side of what was a sensational innings and a great game.

Well done to Radlett and big thanks to Chris Syers for scoring.

This Wednesday there’s a T20 game at home v Dunstable 1XI (6pm), then we’re back at home on Saturday v Hertford 2XI (12pm).
Bar will be open - See you then!
