A round up of the week's junior action

U9s in tournament action

Our youngest team had hot afternoon at the Rodwell Cup in Tring on Sunday afternoon (pictured). The team played four matches and everyone got a good bat and bowl. They certainly did a shift in the field too, with temperatures in the high 20s.

Many thanks go to Hayley, Paul, Simon and Rob for getting the team organised and to the parents for cheering all afternoon.

U9s at Chenies and Latimer

As testament to the strength in the U9 squad, and to Hayley's incredible organisational skills, an entirely different team had taken on Chenies and Latimer earlier on Sunday morning. A strong C&L team put on an impressive 370 in their 16 overs, which was always going to be a formidable target. In reply, Northchurch did well to get to 247 against some tight bowling from the home team.

U12s win in last ball thriller

It all came down to the last ball in probably the game of the week as the U12s took on Old Albanians at The Meadow. The home team batted stoically to post 299 for 5 on a typically good Northchurch pitch. Ryan and Oscar, and Jasper and Teddy put on a particularly impressive display of accumulation by stealing quick singles all around the wicket.

In reply, Old Albanians were equally circumspect and only lost four wickets on their way to setting up a perfect chase, however, Northchurch's death bowling was accurate and the visitors could not managed to get over the line, finishing five short on 294.

U15s also win in last ball thriller[

The U15s had a great game against Leverstock Green at the Meadow on Wednesday. The home team played aggressively and got bowled out for 95 in 17 overs. Olly P retired (again) at 30, while Dylan and Will chipped in with hard hitting teens. Levvy Green were more watchful, determined to bat the overs and win the game.

However, standout bowling from Josh (one for three runs from his overs) pegged back a fluid chase in the middle of the innings and Levvy reached the final over needing eight to win. A catch in the deep at cow corner from Olly, then a wicket for Adam, beating the bat for pace, kept Northchurch in the game and Levvy could not hit the boundary needed from the final ball and finished three short on 93 for 7.

U13s beaten by weather

Perhaps we were optimistic to think we'd get three games in on the trot... All but seven overs of the home match against Chorleywood were played, but the persistent rain turned into a heavy downpour and there was little option but to abandon the game. In truth, the visitors had been all over Northchurch so we submitted the scores with them deserved winners.

Next week sees another packed calendar of junior cricket. We wish all the boys well.
