Last Man Standing & Grand National Sweepstake

Last Man Standing & Grand National Sweepstake

Richard Reid25 May - 17:36

£1300 raised for the club. A massive club thank you to Dave Elliott for being our fundraiser and organiser supreme!

What started as a fun way to create a bit of competition and raise some much-needed funds for the club turned into a huge success. After 8 rounds of the Last Man Standing, we raised an impressive £1,155, while also paying out the same amount in prize money to our winners.

Our first winner of the year was Charlie Sweeney, who scooped the opening double rollover pot of £285. Ben Pyne followed with a win worth £140. The second rollover pot was amicably shared between Mark Hobley and Andy Lerpiniere, who each took home £145. Andy then continued his fine form by going back-to-back, winning a further £125. Mark Hobley later claimed another pot of £125, before Lee Johnson won the penultimate round and pocketed £115. Finally, Richard Reid rounded things off by winning the last pot of the season worth £75.

It’s been great fun throughout, with plenty of questionable banter along the way — mostly from Butterman and Chapman!

During the racing season, the club also held a Grand National sweepstake, with 34 members taking part. The top five prizes were:

* 1st – Ali F: £120
* 2nd – Simon T: £50
* 3rd – Ian F: £30 (donated back to the club)
* 4th – Gaz: £25 (donated back to the club)
* 5th – Chappers: £10

The Grand National sweepstake raised an additional £145 for the club.

So, as the domestic football season draws to a close — sadly with West Ham dropping out of the Premier League — the club has successfully raised a total of £1,300 through the Last Man Standing competition and the Grand National sweepstake. It has been agreed that the money will go towards the purchase of a mobile net for the ground.

Finally, we’ll be launching a World Cup sweepstake, with the draw taking place at the club after the T20 game at Home to Hemel on Wednesday 3rd June. With the tournament kicking off on 11th June 2026, it promises to be another great event to get involved in.
