Summer weather has finally arrived, just in time for the All Stars BBQ and cricket festival

All Stars Celebration

There was an amazing turnout for our All Stars cricket festival and family BBQ on Friday night. Our sixty-five All Stars, age 5-8, finished their season with games of miniature cricket, which filled the Meadow. Lee and Jason Nightingale volunteered to cook an amazing BBQ, which raised lots of money for our junior cricket funds. Our older juniors were out in force to help with the cricket. Our thanks go to them and to Jackie for her work behind the bar, to Jimmy Smart for organising the All Stars, and Laura from Mighty Sports for coaching.

Another 30 points for the 2s

The 2nd XI maintained their amazing run in the league by beating Northampton Exiles at home. Bowling first on a sweltering day, two direct hit run outs opened up the opposition top order before wickets were shared around the all-pace attack. Northchurch were never troubled by chasing 170, knocking it off in 35 overs. Louis (90) and the returning Rob Channon (43) helped themselves to most of the runs on a belting pitch. The remarkable neck-and-neck race with Harpenden Dolphins continues, almost at the halfway point of the season.

First team melts in Hertfort heat

On a 30+ degree day, Northchurch had no hesitation in batting first after winning the toss at the lovely Bayford and Hertford. However, it became clear that there was plenty of help for the bowlers early on as the visitors were reduced to 20 for 4. Joel was outstanding with the bat and would have got us back into the game for sure, but for a piece of bad luck.

Revenge on Chorleywood in T20 cup

After the last-over defeat against Chorleywood at The Common two weeks ago, Northchurch fielded a strong team for the home fixture. Wood were inserted to bat by captain Hobes and lost regular wickets on their way to posting 103. Spacey did the damage with his second five-fer of the season. The pink ball offered some swing to the visors in the second half, which caused Northchurch problems, but not enough with such a small total to chase, and the home team knocked off the runs with four overs to spare.

Young Sunday Team Beats Ivinghoe and Pitstone

Moughty and Mike were the only members of the Sunday XI legally allowed to buy a jug, which is just as well because it was Mike who set up a fantastic win with a quickfire 62, ably support by captain Moughton (41) and U14s Charlie W (29) and Jude (27). Despite a nice Nice 78, I&P could not overhaul Northchurch’s 210. Ben and Ellis made inroads with the new ball, but it was Mike James again, with four fer 19 from seven overs, that wiped out the home team’s last resistance.

Junior Matches

It has been a full on week for the juniors, with a total of nine games in five days. The U11s notched their first win, away v Langleybury and the U13Bs had a cracking victory over St Albans. Links to match reports below.
