Letchworth has not been happy hunting ground for the 1st XI over the last couple of years, failing to defend 285 in 2017 and to chase 230 last year. So it was a fine all round performance to secure victory on Saturday. Contributions with the bat from Saf, Matt, Gaz and new man Jules saw Northchurch post 230 from a rain-reduced 48 overs. 2s lose narrowly to new look St Albans

Both teams had benefited from good all-round club availability and fielded strong XIs. Northchurch bowled first and were happy at the break, with 150 to get. Wickets fell regularly in the reply but Northchurch got themselves into a position to win the game. However, the 10 needed from the final over proved too much in the face of some tight St Albans death bowling.

Early baths for the Sunday XI

The Outlaws proved simply too strong for the Sunday XI this year. The promising Northchurch batting line up was unable to get a foothold in the game and were all out for 67. The Outlaws ruthlessly chased their target down before tea.

President’s V Chairman’s XI

The annual President’s v Chairman’s game will be held on Sunday 25 August. The bar will be open from 1, with a 30 over game starting at 2pm. Plenty of the Northchurch old guard will be turning out so it will be well worth coming along to watch to see if they’ve still got it..!
