League matches go to plan for Saturday XIs, Sunday XI fall to defeat, academy washed out.

1s go to script at home against Datchworth

It is a familiar record for the season against Datchworth. Miss out at their place, win convincingly at home. In fact, the 1st XI has not lost a league match at home since July last year. And you have to look back to 2015 to find the previous defeat at The Meadow.

Batting first on a pitch that had been under cover for a couple of days, an under-strength Datchworth limped to 150 all out. Matt Suckling looked in first class touch to make the chase look easy (pictured playing a glorious lofted drive). The win maintains the 21-point lead at the top of the division. 39 points of an available 90 will be enough to secure promotion.

2s back to winning ways

After a disappointing loss to St Albans last week, the second XI made light work of Harpenden VIs. Randall’s men racked up 233 from their 45 overs, with Jimmy, Louis and the skipper himself cashing in on a nice St George’s school pitch. Javelin Dave speared any opposition hopes of reaching their target by taking four for nothing with his opening salvo. The rest of the victims were shared around the team, who next week take on league title contenders, Harpenden Dolphins, seeking to do one better than the tie managed in the first round.

Young guns in the wickets for the Sunday XI

Ellis and Noah did some serious damage with the ball against Mayfield at home on Sunday. Ellis bowled a miserly opening spell, taking two for 17 from his seven. Noah claimed three scalps to put Church in a decent position, however, the Mayfield numbers seven and nine both made fifties to take the visitors to 204. Congratulations to Jehan for taking his first NCC wicket. In the reply, Mayfield’s bowling prevented any batsman from getting in and the team was all out, 101 light, just after drinks.

Academy Washed out at Hemel

There was no result in the Academy game against Grand Union on Sunday. Northchurch faced 14 overs, almost all in the rain, and coped well with conditions to reach 111. James made a bright start before getting bowled for 19, with Charlie S (15*) and Ellis (17*) looking well set at the crease before the morning showers eventually forced abandonment. Well done to the Grand Union fielders for sticking to their task in awful conditions.

President’s V Chairman’s XI

The annual President’s v Chairman’s game will be held on Sunday 25 August. The bar will be open from 1pm, with a 30 over game starting at 2pm. Plenty of the Northchurch old guard will be turning out so it will be well worth coming along to watch to see if they’ve still got it..! Everyone is welcome to join us for a BBQ, which will go on at the end of the match.
