Liveing and Garraway Masterclass Secures Derby Day Dominance

In a high-stakes local derby on April 25, the home side delivered a comprehensive performance to dismantle their rivals, centered around a flawless century from George Liveing and a destructive knock by Tom Garraway. Despite a late-innings surge from the visitors, the hosts' mammoth total of 323 proved too steep a mountain to climb.

First Innings: The Liveing & Garraway Show
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the home side suffered an immediate setback when Jack Randall fell for a golden duck. However, the early wobbles were soon forgotten. While wickets fell around him, George Liveing anchored the innings with a "chanceless" 116* off 149 balls, playing the role of the quintessential sheet anchor.

The momentum shifted gears entirely when Tom Garraway arrived at the crease. Garraway bludgeoned 94 runs from just 83 deliveries, including 4 sixes. His dismissal just six runs short of a century was the only blemish on a remarkable day where he maintained a Bradman-esque season average of exactly 200.00. The pair shared a massive 178-run stand for the fourth wicket, punishing Ben Caidan in particular, who finished with figures of 1/94.

First Innings Totals:

  • George Liveing: 116* (149)
  • Tom Garraway: 94 (83)
  • Total: 323/5 (50 Overs)

Second Innings: Hooper and Baxter Stifle the Chase
Chasing 324, the visitors struggled to build the substantial partnerships required for such a mammoth target. Dave Elliott provided the early breakthrough, removing both Todd openers to leave the chase stuttering at 48-2.
Mid-innings, Tony Hooper proved why he is the man for the big occasion, picking up the key wickets of Luke Frey (33) and the dangerous Ben Caidan (39) just as they looked set to threaten. While Mukamil Jomegol fought valiantly with a top score of 45, the required run rate continued to climb.
Nicholas Baxter provided the finishing touch of class with the ball, returning exceptionally economical figures of 2/14 from his 5 overs to ensure the visitors never got within striking distance.

Bowling Highlights:

  • Tony Hooper: 2/36 (6 Overs)
  • Nicholas Baxter: 2/14 (5 Overs)
  • Dave Elliott: 2/40 (7 Overs)

The Verdict
The visitors showed resilience to bat out their 50 overs, finishing on 243/8, but they were ultimately outclassed in all departments. The day belonged to the home side's top order, specifically Liveing for his technical masterclass and Garraway for his sheer power, setting a target that was always going to be beyond their local rivals' reach.

Result: Home Team won by 80 runs.
