NCC won the toss on a bright sunny day at home on what looked a decent pitch.
We were always going to bat first but lost opener Matt Suckling for 1 in the 3rd over which was a set back. Opener JB & george Living at 3 who has been in impressive form at the start of this season set about building a solid NCC start. They put on 90 for the 2nd wicket before George was caught on 37. Surely a big one is just around the corner for George.
Hobbers went for 21 LBW & Shane for 33 they both kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely. Theo stepped up again & after a solid start took the bowling apart in the last 5 overs to finish on a superb 60 with 4 sixes & help the total to a solid 245 in 49 overs.
Elizabethans started well & put on 52 for the first wicket before OJ made the important break through in his 7th over removing Elizabethans opener Gibson for 9. Old E's batted well for a period here but NCC bowled tight too & OJ, Tom Vila & JB gave NCC control & tight spells through the middle section. Romit also bowled tight & added to NCC's pressure & when Gomes fell for 59 & Old E's were 153-3 the game was still in the balance.
Back came the seamers & up stepped Tom Vila & Shane Wineti both ripped through the Elizabethans middle order to leave the visitors 168 - 7 as 5 wickets fell for 15 runs Vila picking up 2 & Shane with 3 in 5 overs that changed the game & had NCC back on top.
Ncc were clinical to the end & kept things tight as Elizabethans were squeezed by tight overs from Romit & Hobbers to make sure Elizabethans could only manage 204 for 9 in their 49 overs. It showed how by just keeping things very tight & bowling to simple plans NCC could build pressure on the opponents batting order to produce mistakes & bring home 30 points.
A top team effort & great start to our league campaign. Currently we sit joint top of the league!
