Boxmoor CC Saturday 2nd XI won the toss and elected to bat first, but they found a Northchurch side in professional and determined form.
The Northchurch CC bowling unit delivered a highly organised and disciplined performance to restrict the visitors to 196 all out in 39.5 overs. While Nicholas Baxter (2/35 from 8 overs) and Matt Dawson (2/44 from 8 overs) provided consistent breakthroughs, the innings was defined by the immense pressure built by Jonny Hopkins. Hopkins bowled a remarkably parsimonious spell, finishing with figures of 1/15 from his 8 overs, including 4 maidens. This relentless accuracy allowed Sunni Durrani (2/28) to eventually remove Boxmoor's top scorer, Daniel Hobbs (82), a wicket that served as the turning point for the innings. The fielding effort was equally clinical; Richard Reid demonstrated exceptionally "safe hands" with three catches, while Michael Buttleman also contributed a catch to ensure the visitors never escaped the bowling unit's grip.
In response, Northchurch CC chased down the target with authority, reaching 199/5 in just 31.4 overs. The pursuit was defined by a tactical masterclass in contrasting batting styles within the top order. Jordan Butcher was in explosive form, dismantling the attack with 84 runs from only 51 balls, a knock that featured 12 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 164.71. At the other end, Richard Reid provided the essential stability required for a successful chase, anchoring the innings with a well-measured 63 runs from 89 balls. Following their departure, Michael Buttleman clinched the victory with a brutal cameo, smashing an unbeaten 24* from just 8 deliveries (SR 300.00) to see the team home with time to spare.
This emphatic performance secures maximum league points and provides the 2nd XI with fantastic momentum as we continue our campaign in the Herts Premier Cricket League.
