On 05 July 2026, the Northchurch CC Under 14B side faced an incredibly tough assignment against a formidable Berkhamsted CC team. The visitors arrived with a strong squad featuring several 'A league' players, presenting a significant step up in quality. However, the 101-run defeat does not tell the full story of the morning. Our young side displayed immense grit and an organised approach, refusing to back down against high-level opposition. The spirit shown by the team, even when the scoreboard was against them, was a true testament to the depth of character at our club.

Bowling Highlights: The "Little Harry" Impact
Berkhamsted set a daunting target, finishing their innings on 235/2. While the visitors batted aggressively, the bowling innings was lit up by the performance of ‘Little Harry’ from the U10 Amber squad. Showing no fear against much older and more experienced batsmen, Harry’s accuracy and temperament were outstanding.

Batting Resilience: Composure and Late Hitting
Faced with a massive chase, Northchurch responded with a very respectable 134/7 from their 20 overs. The foundation of the innings was built by Ben H, who displayed fantastic composure and grit at the crease. He played with a solid defence against the new ball and navigated the pressure excellently, eventually retiring not out to allow others a chance to bat. Towards the end of the match, Louis added some vital runs with some nice hitting, ensuring the team reached a triple-figure total and finished the innings with momentum.

Rising Stars: Stepping Up for the Club
We want to give a huge big up to the younger players who stepped into the breach to help the U14 B side. Special mentions must go to ‘Little Harry’ (our wonderful bar lady Jackie's grandson)from the U10 Amber and 'Not Out' Adam from the U12s for joining the squad at the very last minute. Stepping up to a higher age group is never easy, but their performances demonstrate the fantastic future talent and depth within the Northchurch junior programme.
