Bovingdon won the toss and put Northchurch into bat, and the girls responded brilliantly. Consistent batting by each pair, with everyone contributing and adding 20–25 runs per pair, for the loss of just two wickets. There was clear communication, loud calling, and lots of sharp running between the wickets. Plenty of 2s and even a three between Izzy and Grace.
Against a strong bowling attack, the girls did an awesome job of rotating the strike and making sure the bad balls were punished. Shout‑out to Bella, who switched into full end‑of‑innings hitting mode in the final pair, finding the boundary three times with some cracking fours. Northchurch finished on an impressive 285 for 2, a super effort.
The fielding was a real highlight and created most of the moments of the game. There was plenty of energy, great backing up, loads of encouragement, and some standout individual contributions.
With the ball, Sian got an early breakthrough with a timely wicket, bowled Sian, caught Zoe. Thedara bowled very tidily against some strong batting, building pressure throughout her spell. Grace picked up her first wicket.
Other highlights in the field included:
* Izzy stopping a certain four and bravely taking a painful hand‑smacker
* Poppy putting her body on the line repeatedly to cut off boundaries
* Emily knocking back middle and off for a vintage wicket
Zoe led the side expertly from behind the stumps, making smart tactical calls and offering constant encouragement.
As for the finish…the game went down to the final over, with Bovingdon eventually just managing to edge it, finishing on 294 for 2. A match that genuinely could have gone either way.
Player of the Match went to Bella, voted by the opposition, while Poppy took Northchurch’s POTM on just her second game. A massive improvement even from last week, fantastic team spirit, and a performance the girls should be incredibly proud of.
Roll on Tring!
