Bowling & Fielding
Athena wasted no time making her mark, claiming a wicket in the very first over. Emily was equally deadly with the ball, adding another clean dismissal shortly after, with both girls finishing with two wickets each.
But it was the fielding that truly caught the eye. The whole team was sharp, switched-on and working brilliantly together. They were masterful at adjusting to Tring’s batting styles, calling out field placements, and backing up the stumps with impressive awareness for their age. Two moments stood out: Izzy Q produced a spectacular sliding stop, whipping the ball to the stumps to beat the runner; and Grace took a brilliant catch that stopped Tring in their tracks. Outstanding cricket, both of them.
Batting
Siân led the batting with the class we’ve come to expect. She was composed, clever, and always finding the gaps. Her 15 runs, including 2 boundaries, were exactly what was needed to set the pace. Phoebe held firm at the stumps with some confident hits, keeping the scoreboard ticking along nicely.
A special mention for Indie, who marked her first cap in style by scoring off her very first ball. One to remember!
Emily and Grace then combined brilliantly for an eye-catching 24 runs, with lightning pace and perfect timing between them. Athena and Poppy faced some testing bowling but responded with well-placed shots and great communication to keep the score moving. Closing out the innings, Zoe W and Izzy Q made a strong final pair with Zoe consistently finding the gaps, while Izzy capped things off with a superb hit for three.
Result
A very convincing victory: Northchurch 271/3 – Tring 238/7.
What made this win even sweeter was how the team achieved it: with warmth, encouragement and a genuine team spirit that is becoming the hallmark of this squad. Zoe W earned a special mention from Tring’s manager for her outstanding sportsmanship, which she’s clearly helped bring out in her teammates as well.
Manager’s Player of the Match: Grace — for her electric fielding and sharp batting.
Players’ Player of the Match: Athena — whose bowling was so impressive, Tring’s players commented she was as good as any boys’ team. We’d politely disagree: at the rate these girls are playing, the boys should be the ones taking notes!
Come on Northchurch! ?
Not to be forgotten, a special thanks to our volunteers. Simon for coming out on a cold morning to set up the pitch, Phil for keeping us all on track with the scoring which is no small feat! Thanks to Gareth for umpiring yet again, Charlie for warming up with the girls and helping them sharpen their technique through the match, and Katherine for the delicious cake to really cheer things up!
Amazing job everyone. See you Friday!
