Weekly Round Up 3: All Stars underway and some excellent wins

By Tom Vila

A summary of the action from another week packed with cricket

All Stars at the Meadow

All Stars is an ECB initiative to help clubs deliver grassroots cricket for 5-8 year olds. What a pleasure it was to host our SIXTY All Stars for their first session of the summer. Fantastic to see so many smiling junior cricketers on the field.

Massive thanks to Jimmy Smart for arranging, to Mighty Sports for supplying female coaching support and the parent helpers for making it happen. The programme runs for 8 weeks, finishing with a BBQ and presentation on 28 June. It's not too late to sign up and don’t forget the bar is open from 6 this Friday.

League campaign begins

Our senior XIs got their campaigns in the league off to good start on Saturday, with both defending well compiled scores. Mike James was the hero at home with 70*, while Charles Fidler top scored with 37 in a low scoring game at North Enfield.

Sunday T20 Revenge on Radlett

On Sunday, the Meadow saw what will be one of the games of the year, with Radlett coming up just two short of a huge total of 176 in the second T20 in as many weeks. Tom Garraway demonstrated some scintillating form with 88 from just 48 balls, while Spacey held his nerve to defend 10 in the last over of the game.

U14 chalk up a win

The U14s opened the account for the age-group cricketers with a win over Watford Town. Unbelievably, Jude James is yet to be dismissed this year, having retired in every match, We’ll let you know what his average is when he gets one.

Quiz Night 12 Jul, 7pm

Don't forget that bookings for the NCC quiz night are now open. The event is open to all club members, including juniors from U13 age group and up. Tickets are available through Gilly Clifford (gillyclifford@hotmail.com). Click here for more information.
