1s battle hard at Dunstable
The first half of the match went to plan against a Dunstable team battling to stay up. The Northchurch bowlers did their job to knock over the home team for 145 on a pitch that seemed decent to bat on. Dunstable produced a number of good balls to reduce Northchurch to 80 for 6 but the strong lower order dug in to blunt the attack before getting the chase over the line. Match Report.
2s out of promotion race
The 2nd XI is now sadly out of contention for promotion after a loss to runaway league leaders Harpenden Dolphins at the Meadow. Fifties from the captain and Louis Prideaux helped the home team post what felt like a competitive 199. The bowlers dug deep in the defence but an injury to Matt Dawson dented hopes of containing the 'Phins, who got home with an over or two to spare.
Academy outgunned by league leaders
The final junior game of the season was played in glorious August sunshine at the Meadow. West Herts proved too strong for Northchurch, despite perhaps the best bowling performance of the season. Match Report.
Jimmy gets the runs
The Sunday XI had an away trip to local friends Potten End, with Chappers at the helm. End’s notoriously aggressive approach to batting got them up to 250, which they might have been pleased with. However, they did not account for an in form Jimmy Smart, who belted 140* to get Northchurch across the line, ably supported by James K, who played his part in a partnership of 80.
Chairman’s XI does it again
The annual President’s XI v Chairman’s XI match went to the wire for the second time in as many years, with the Chairman’s XI taking the bragging rights into the bar. A mid-match break to watch Stokes’ test match heroics and a lot of post-match jollity made the day a great success. Match Report.
